Devlog #3

Devlog #3 -- December 6th, 2020

[Note: This is a devlog regarding upcoming changes to the game. The update has not been released at this time. To stay up to date, follow me on my twitter]

It's been awhile since my last post! Life has been busy! Thankfully, I'm back on track and more excited about the future of the game than ever.

A new topic for the game has been started on the Weight Gaming forum, so feel free to join the discussion here! This devlog will focus on the new playable character: the Pig Knight! Keep in mind that the gifs shared in this post are all works in progress and from test levels. As such, you can expect these assets to have a bit more polish on release.

The Pig Knight

Adding the Pigs as the next playable race was an obvious choice--the Pig Kingdom has suffered some major losses recently, so it's time for a noble knight to rise to the challenge and seek revenge!

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Armed with their trusty crossbow, the Pig Knight is prepared to hunt down the scoundrels that stole from their chubby and beloved queen. It's up to you to find the invaders and deliver justice on the tip of an arrow!

Once you locate a thief, take your shot! You'll knock the stolen goods right out of their greedy hands. You can see how many food sacks you've collected out of the total available in a level by checking the HUD at the top right of the screen.

Piggybacking

While they don't posses any special movement ability, the Pig Knight is an expert at "piggybacking" off of the abilities of others! Long horizontal jumps are not the Pig's forte, but an unsuspecting Bird Knight can ferry you across hazards of all sorts.

Alternatively, a Cat Knight scampering up a tall wall can make for the perfect elevator to take you to new heights.

The Pig Queen

And now for the first sneak peak at the Pig Queen herself! It's a shame you have to be the one to break the bad news to her... I wonder how she'll take it...

Better get those crossbows ready!

Controller Support

This is a smaller feature, but the game will include controller support. With it comes some fun things like vibration feedback during certain actions, especially when at higher weights.

What's Next?

There's still a lot to do! (Making video games is a LOT of work!) In the next devlog I'll take some time to discuss some very fun features I'm working on, including branching dialogue and additional character customization options. Remember to stay up to date by following me on my twitter and here on itch.io!

See you next time!
